Ideal with ice-cream or as an ingredient in recipes and home baking. It is often used in oriental stir-fry recipes.
How about shoulder of pork with ginger for a tasty family meal? Cook a 1.8kg (4lb) shoulder in 1.5 litres (2.6 pints) of ginger beer for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Remove any excess fat and cover the top of the joint with a mix of 2 tbsp ground ginger and 4 chopped pieces of stem ginger in syrup. Cook under the grill until well grilled.
Another idea is for parsnips baked with ginger, and stem ginger goes really well with rhubarb too.
